Our experience

The Wagner does a First Saturday open house every month, and this one is the Natural History Road Show. Your kid can bring rocks, shells, fossils — whatever they've collected — and have actual scientists tell them what it is. There's also a shark tooth dig where they can take one home. The building is a National Historic Landmark and the collection is wild. Free parking on Montgomery Ave, no time limit.

More details

Bring your rocks, shells, and fossils — real scientists will ID them

The Natural History Road Show — bring your found rocks, minerals, shells, bones, insects, fossils and other specimens to have them identified by science experts! Meet and chat with scientists including paleontologist Dr. Jason Downs (who helped discover the Tiktaalik roseae) and entomologist Greg Cowper from the Academy of Natural Sciences. Additional activities include exploring the natural history collection, a scavenger hunt, drawing in the museum, and digging up and identifying shark teeth — kids can take their found shark tooth home. Walk-ins welcome, advance registration speeds entry.
