The short version

TinyJawns keeps your family's details on your own device. We count visits without tracking anyone. We only learn how you use the site if you choose to help, and you can stop whenever you like. We don't sell your information and we don't run ads.

What stays on your device

These are saved in your browser, on your device, not in an account on our servers:

  • Your family profile: your kids' age groups and your ZIP code or location choice
  • Your filters and calendar settings
  • The events and places you save

Some things need our servers to work. When the calendar looks up events for you, or shows the details of the ones you saved, your browser sends what it needs (such as an age group, an area, or the saved items) to get the answer. We don't use those requests to build a record of what you saved or to follow you around. To erase what is on your device, clear this site's data in your browser settings.

Help improve TinyJawns (your choice)

This is off unless you turn it on. If you do, your browser sends us anonymous usage signals: which listings you view and which links on them you click, plus a random ID that lets us tell a returning family from a new visitor so our counts are honest. We use it to see what is useful and to fix what isn't. It has no name or email in it.

If you turn it on, the calendar details you open inside the calendar panel are shared too: the listing and the broad filters that were on (as described under page-view counts). They are sent in one batch per visit, as you leave or hide the page, and never include search words.

Turning it on sets two small cookies on tinyjawns.com: tj_consent, which remembers your choice, and tj_vid, the random visitor ID, which lasts up to 400 days. It also keeps a random ID for the browser tab while it is open. Turning it off stops all of this, deletes both cookies (if that fails, we try again on your next visit and ignore any leftover cookie) and forgets the tab ID. If you leave it off, none of these is created, read or stored.

Page-view counts, without cookies

When someone opens a listing or event page, our server adds one to that page's view count, whether or not you have turned on Help improve TinyJawns. That is how we know what is popular and what is trending. The count notes the page, the time, your browser family (such as Chrome or Safari, never the full browser details) and, if the link came from one of our own campaigns such as our newsletter, which source and medium it came from; any other campaign tag is recorded only as "other". It uses no cookie and has no visitor ID, session ID, IP address or referring page, so it can't be connected to you or to any other visit. We leave out visits from search engines and other automated programs. If you have turned on Help improve TinyJawns, your signals are stored separately and are never added to the view count.

When you open a listing from our calendar or party pages, the count also notes which broad filters were on, such as age groups, free or indoor, a category, and a broad area like the first three digits of a ZIP code. The count row records the listing that was viewed plus those broad filters, and has no visitor ID or session ID, so it can't be tied to a person or to any other visit. Search words are never included. The same goes for a visit to the party pages: we count it, with the broad filters that were on and roughly how many venues matched, and nothing that identifies you.

Server logs

Our servers, for both the TinyJawns site and the Tailend API that powers it, keep operational logs so we can keep things running, fix bugs and spot abuse. These apply whether or not you turn on Help improve TinyJawns. A log entry records the kind of request, the time, the type of browser, and at most a broad area (such as the first three digits of a ZIP code), never your exact location. Children's ages appear only as broad age groups. These logs don't store search words or your IP address. We keep raw logs for up to 60 days, and after that we keep only aggregate statistics.

Our hosting provider necessarily sees your IP address in order to deliver pages to you, and to block abuse we briefly count requests per IP address (for about a minute).

Searching

When you type a search, the words are sent to OpenAI so we can understand what you're looking for, and the result of that step is cached by Upstash so repeat searches are fast. We also keep a record of the searches people make, with no visitor ID or other link to you, so we can see what families look for and improve results. Please don't type personal details, like a child's name, into the search box.

Feedback you choose to send

The thumbs up and thumbs down are your own action: nothing is sent until you tap one. If you rate something, we store the rating, the page you were on, the listing, the search you rated (if you were rating search results), and any note or "what was off" choices you add. This doesn't need Help improve TinyJawns and doesn't carry a visitor ID. We also post new feedback to an internal team chat so we can act on it.

Newsletter, waitlist and sponsors

If you subscribe to our newsletter or join the premium calendar waitlist, we collect your email address, your consent, the time you signed up, and your IP address (for security). If you tick the box to share your family details when joining the waitlist, we also receive your kids' age groups and your ZIP code, and we keep your answers if you fill in the short survey that follows. We use your email to send the newsletter, tell you about important updates, and give you support.

If you are a business buying a sponsorship, we keep your business name and contact details. You pay on Stripe's secure checkout page: Stripe handles your payment details, and we never see your card number.

Cookies

TinyJawns sets cookies only if you turn on Help improve TinyJawns: tj_consent and tj_vid, described above. We don't have family accounts or a sign-in, so there are no login cookies. Even if a tj_vid cookie were left over on your device, we ignore it unless tj_consent is present. We use no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we don't use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics service. On its checkout page, Stripe sets its own cookies.

Who handles data for us

These services handle data only to provide their service to us:

  • Vercel: hosts and serves our website
  • Google Cloud (BigQuery): stores our server logs and the statistics we build from them
  • Supabase: our database, which holds listings, the anonymous view counts, opted-in usage signals, feedback, and waitlist and sponsor records
  • MailerLite: manages newsletter subscriptions and sends our emails
  • Stripe: takes sponsor payments
  • OpenAI: interprets the words you type in search
  • Upstash: caches search results and keeps the site fast
  • Discord: our internal team chat, where new feedback and service alerts are posted

Each service's own privacy policy applies to how it handles your data.

No sale, no advertising

We do not sell your personal information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles.

Global Privacy Control

If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a firm "no" to Help improve TinyJawns. The switch stays off, and we don't set, read or keep the visitor cookie. Browsing works as usual and the cookie-free page-view count still happens.

Your choices, and deleting your data

  • Stop sharing usage any time by switching off Help improve TinyJawns, on this page or in the calendar's family panel. That also deletes the visitor cookie; if that fails we try again on your next visit, and a leftover cookie is ignored either way.
  • Clear what is on your device by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in any email.
  • Ask us to show you, correct or delete what we hold about you (your newsletter or waitlist details, feedback you sent, or usage signals tied to your visitor ID, which your browser's cookie settings show as tj_vid) by emailing us below.

The cookie-free page-view counts have no ID, so they can't be traced back to one person to delete.

Children

TinyJawns is for parents and caregivers. We never ask for children's names or birthdays; kids' ages are only ever kept as broad age groups.
