Pay-what-you-wish admission to the whole Academy on Aug 1, dinosaurs and all.
On Saturday, August 1, the Academy of Natural Sciences marks its founding in 1812 as America's first scientific society devoted to natural history with a Firstival celebration, part of the Philadelphia Historic District's 52 Weeks of Firsts. Admission is pay-what-you-wish for the entire day, which covers the whole museum: Dinosaur Hall with its mounted T. rex, the historic wildlife dioramas, live animal shows, the butterfly pavilion, and the hands-on dinosaur dig running all summer as part of Dino-Mite Summer. Special Firstival programming runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regular admission is $22 for adults and $18 for children ages 2 to 12, so this is the cheapest Saturday of the summer to walk in.
