A free birthday party for the park, with cupcakes, bubbles, and a Ben Franklin singalong
Franklin Square reopened as a family park in 2006 after decades of neglect, and on Saturday July 25 it turns 20. Historic Philadelphia is throwing a free morning party from 10 AM to noon. The lineup is birthday crafts, temporary tattoos, music, and giant bubbles and games with YoYo, the park entertainer who has been a fixture there for years. At 10:30 a Ben Franklin reenactor leads a birthday singalong, and free cupcakes go out while they last. The morning closes with the Franklin Square Fountain Show at noon. The date also happens to be National Carousel Day, so rides on the Parx Liberty Carousel are buy one get one free until 5 PM, and any kid who finishes the Chinese Lantern Festival scavenger hunt earns a free carousel ride on top of that. Everything in the birthday program is free; the carousel, mini golf, and the evening Lantern Festival are separately ticketed.
