Two free afternoons of hands-on math puzzles and games, open to the public
The International Congress of Mathematicians is the largest gathering in the mathematical world. It is held once every four years, and the 2026 congress in Philadelphia is the first time it has come to the United States since 1986. Most of the congress is for researchers, but the Math Festival is the part built for everyone else. Run by the Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival, it fills Hall E of the Pennsylvania Convention Center with tables of hands-on puzzles, games, and math art. There are no lectures and no competition. Kids sit down at a table, get handed something to work on, and a mathematician comes by to nudge them along when they get stuck. It runs Friday and Saturday afternoons, both days from 2 to 6 PM, and it is free. Tickets are released through Eventbrite and registration closes an hour before each session starts.
