The Water Shed is a Germantown storefront that opened in late 2024 with the Philadelphia Water Department, Mural Arts and the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, built around neighborhood flooding and climate resilience. On Saturday, August 15 it throws EcoFEST, a free block party on the 5300 block of Wayne Avenue themed "Roots & Resilience." The kid-facing parts are genuinely good: a drop-in science lab run by the Academy of Natural Sciences, the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership's Creekmobile, art and nature activities with resident artist Kaitlyn Pomerantz, and the Philly Water Bar. There are also DJ sets, drumming and dancing, poetry, raffles, community vendors, plus paper shredding and electronics recycling if you want to make the trip do double duty.
