Spring finally showed up and brought options. This weekend's got outdoor markets, a brand-new exhibit about blowing things up, and a beer garden in a flower garden. Here's where we'd actually go.

Friday–Sunday · Noon–8 PM (Sun til 6)
Dilworth Park · Center City · · All ages
🟡Pack snacks · Noon start means lunch crowds around City Hall — grab food from a vendor early
Sixty-plus local makers set up right next to City Hall — handmade jewelry, art, skincare, food vendors, the works. Free to walk around, easy to get to on any transit line. They also just opened a free mini soccer pitch in the park — 7,000 square feet, open to anyone — so the kids can kick a ball around while you browse. Friday and Saturday noon to 8, Sunday noon to 6. Rain or shine.

Philly's traveling beer garden is back for the season, and they picked a gorgeous spot to start — tucked between Boathouse Row and the Art Museum with 150+ azalea species starting to bloom. Grab a craft beer or a cocktail, order off the full food menu, let the kids run. Limited parking at the Waterworks Drive lot off Kelly Drive, or take the 38 bus.

Saturday · 10 AM–5 PM
Science History Institute · Old City · · Ages 5+
🟢Just show up · Free, no reservation, open 10–5
Brand-new exhibit that just opened Friday — how fireworks are made, designed, tested, and launched. Five sections, all interactive. Most parents — including us — had never heard of this museum, which is crazy because it's free, it's three blocks from the Liberty Bell, and they let kids touch actual scientific objects at the handling tables. While you're there, Saturday is also their Stories of Science day — this week's theme is "April Showers," with hands-on water science activities and drop-in tours at 11:30 and 2.

🍧 Water ice, gelatis & ice cream · All ages · Open mid-April through September
The line is back on Christian Street. John's just opened for the season — same family, same recipe since 1945. The water ice flavors rotate and they do not mess around: cantaloupe, mango, peach alongside the classics. Our order: a gelati with vanilla ice cream and chocolate water ice on top. Cash or Venmo only — there's an ATM outside. 701 Christian St.
