Saturday is the busiest day this week since three of the four picks land on it, but it is 82 and mostly sunny. Sunday is Grandparents Day and it may rain. Feria del Barrio runs rain or shine, so it might be the safest bet.

Wyck Historic House & Garden · Germantown · · All ages
🟢Free · The apiary talk starts at 10:30, so go early if that is the draw
Wyck runs this one with the Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild, and it is a genuinely odd, genuinely great afternoon. There are honey tastings and live extractions, hive talks at the apiary starting at 10:30, and a bee beard demonstration, which is exactly what it sounds like. Craft vendors and kids' activities fill the garden, the historic house is open for tours, and there is a mead and beer garden for the adults. It lands on Second Saturday in Germantown, so the neighborhood is busy anyway.

Schuylkill Banks · Center City · · All ages
🟡Early start · Loaner rods are first come, first served
The Philadelphia Water Department runs this one, and the useful part is that they loan out rods and tackle to anyone who turns up without any. No fishing license required for the day either. It is catch and release, on the riverbank right under the Walnut Street Bridge, with an awards ceremony at 11:30. The 7 AM start is the real ask. Get there early if you are counting on borrowed gear.

Saturday · Noon-6 PM
Cira Green · University City · · All ages
🟢Free · Cira Green is a rooftop park, so look for the elevator rather than a gate
Cira Green is a park built on the roof of a parking garage just south of 30th Street Station, and plenty of people who live here have never been up there. Root 2 Fruit fills it with more than 100 artists, live performances and beginner-friendly wellness sessions. The kid-facing part is make-and-take crafts from Murals on the Move and Fleisher Art Memorial's ColorWheels. There are also free smoothies from Blkberry Juice Bar while they last.

El Centro de Oro, North 5th Street · Fairhill · · All ages
🟢Free and rain or shine · Thunderstorms are in Sunday's forecast, so dress for it
Taller Puertorriqueño has been throwing this block party on North 5th Street for 42 years. It closes El Centro de Oro, the Golden Block, for an afternoon of Puerto Rican and Latino music, dance, food and craft vendors. This year's headliner is Chuwi, a Puerto Rican band with more than ten million monthly listeners. It runs rain or shine, which is worth knowing given what Sunday looks like.

🍵 Matcha soft serve and shaved ice · All ages · Open daily from 11 AM
A brother and sister run the Philly location, on Race Street in Chinatown, and a warm weekend is the right time for it. Matcha soft serve is what people come for, but there is also shaved ice and a parfait layered with matcha chiffon cake and candied chestnuts. If your kid takes one look at green ice cream and opts out, ube and sesame are on the same menu. It is a few blocks from Reading Terminal Market, so it folds into a day you are already having downtown.
