Walk the Ben Franklin Bridge, a Kayak Flotilla, and Afrobeats at LOVE Park
The big holiday weekend is behind us, and this one is a regular summer Saturday, just with a lot packed into it. The headliner is a once-in-a-lifetime one: the Ben Franklin Bridge is closing to traffic so you can walk across it and help celebrate its 100th birthday. From there it is two free food-and-music festivals, a patriotic kayak flotilla you can watch from the riverbanks, and a Friday night movie under the stars. Every pick this week is free. It is going to be hot like last week, so check for cancellations before you head out, and pack lots of water and shade for the kiddos.

Walk Across the Ben Franklin Bridge for Its 100th Birthday

This is the big one. The Ben Franklin Bridge turns 100 this year, and to mark it they are shutting the whole thing to traffic on Saturday so anyone can walk the full span, out over the Delaware and down into Camden. The main party is on the Camden side near the toll plaza from 10 to 2:30, with food trucks, live music, historical displays, and family activities, and getting there is half the fun: PATCO is running trains every 15 minutes and there are free shuttles from both City Hall and the Philly bridge plaza. It is about a mile and a half across, so it is a real walk with kids, but the view from the middle of that bridge is one you cannot get any other day. Rain date is Sunday.
